What Happens During Your First Reiki Session?
What Happens During Your First Reiki Session?
Trying something new can feel exciting and unfamiliar. Knowing what to expect during your first Reiki session can help you arrive feeling more comfortable.
Reiki is generally a quiet, noninvasive experience. You remain fully clothed, and you do not need to have previous experience with meditation or energy healing.
Before the Session Begins
Your practitioner may ask why you booked and whether there is anything you would like support around.
You can share as much or as little as you feel comfortable sharing. You might arrive with a specific intention, such as wanting support through stress or change. You may also say, “I’m open—do what you do best.”
You should also be asked about touch preferences. Reiki can be offered with light touch or with the practitioner’s hands hovering above the body.
What Should You Wear?
Wear comfortable clothing that allows you to relax. You do not need to remove your clothing during Reiki.
It can also help to:
Eat something light beforehand
Drink water
Silence your phone
Avoid rushing into the appointment
Arrive with curiosity rather than expectations
What Happens on the Table?
You will usually lie on your back on a comfortable treatment table. Blankets, pillows, quiet music, or dim lighting may be used to create a peaceful environment.
The practitioner moves through a series of hand placements near the head, shoulders, torso, legs, and feet. You may feel warmth, tingling, relaxation, emotions, or nothing obvious at all.
A typical session may last between approximately 45 and 90 minutes, depending on the practitioner and appointment type.
What Happens Afterward?
You will be given time to slowly return to your surroundings. Your practitioner may ask what you noticed and share any intuitive observations from the session.
At ORA, insights may be offered through Reiki, intuitive reading, channeling, or energetic awareness depending on the service booked. These observations are intended for reflection and should not be treated as medical diagnoses.
Preparing for Aftercare
After your first Reiki session:
Drink water.
Give yourself space to rest.
Avoid forcing an interpretation.
Write down anything meaningful.
Notice how you feel over the next day or two.
Reiki is complementary and should not replace care from licensed medical or mental-health professionals.
